How To Embed YouTube Videos to WordPress

Introduction

Most WordPress Posts are text and image heavy. And for a lot of purposes -like blogging, this is fine, But did you know that you can also embed YouTube videos on your Posts/Pages too? Embedding YouTube videos can enhance your site. For instance, if you’re using WordPress as a blogging platform, you may decide to post videos related to the content of your blog post. In another instance, if you’re WordPress site is being used as a e-commerce store, you may embed a video to showcase your products more effectively. By embedding a YouTube video you can improve your site’s content and even give the visitors of your site a better browsing experience.

Embedding YouTube videos is easy to do and in this tutorial we will learn how to do it.

Embedding YouTube Videos on WordPress Posts

Let’s first take a look at how to embed YouTube videos on WordPress Posts/Pages. Thankfully, this is really easy to do. To do this, create or edit a Post or Page. Once doing that, you should be redirected to the WordPress block editor. Once there, all you need to do is paste the URL of the YouTube video, that you would like to embed on your WordPress site.

Once the video is embedded, onto the Page or Post, you can configure it on the right side bar.

Once that is done, publish your Page or Post, the video should be embedded like in the image below:

That’s all you have to do to embed a YouTube video to your WordPress Post or Page.

Embedding YouTube Videos on Widget Areas

We can also embedded a YouTube video on Widget Areas (the sidebar for example). This is also really easy to do. From the Admin Dashboard navigate to the Widgets page by hovering Appearance then clicking on Widgets.

Once, there, search for the Text widget. When you find it, choose a location to place it in. For our example. we will choose to place it on the Blog Sidebar

Give the widget a title, then copy paste the URL of YouTube video you need to embed.

After that, you should find the YouTube video on the widget area that you chose

Embedding Videos with the YouTube Embed Plus Plugin

Normally. the previous methods are sufficient to embed a YouTube video to your WordPress site. However, you can also do this with a plugin. There are many plugins that can embed YouTube videos but we’ll only be taking at one of them – the Embed Plus for YouTube plugin. To use the plugin, you first need to install and activate it.

Install and activate the plugin.

We can use the plugin, once it has been installed and activated since it works even without further configuration.

To use the plugin, either create or edit a post or page, then we add the YouTube Wizard block to our post or page

This will then show a menu showing which YouTube content to embed.

For our example, we will be embedding a single video. So we will choose that option. Clicking on that option, a URL field will be shown. Paste the URL of the YouTube video you want to embed there, and click Submit.

Click Insert Into Editor after.

This will embed the video on your WordPress Post/Page
